Welche Symptome verursacht die Influenza?

SymptomeInfiziert wird man, indem das Virus über die Schleimhaut der Atemwege, des Munds und der Augen in den Körper eindringt. Dazu reichen schon winzige Tröpfchen, die etwa beim Niesen, Husten oder Sprechen von Infizierten verbreitet werden. Außerdem kann man sich durch Kontakt mit Nasensekret und anderen Ausscheidungsformen Infizierter wie z.B. Hautschuppen oder Kot infizieren. Ist man erstmal infiziert, kann es einige Tage oder Stunden dauern, bis die Symptome dann aber sehr schnell eintreten. Da die Krankheitsanzeichen relativ unspezifisch sind, können sie oft mit einem gewöhnlichen Infekt verwechselt werden.

Besonders gefährlich ist eine Influenza-Infektion bei chronisch kranken und immungeschwächten, alten und sehr jungen Menschen. Hier kann es durch Zweitinfektionen mit anderen Erregern zu Gehirnentzündungen (=Enzephalitis) und Entzündungen der Skelettmuskulatur (=Myositis) sowie Herzmuskelentzündungen (=Myokarditis) kommen.
